Meiko was born on the planet k-pax. She was into ordinary things, went to a rocket-flying and astronomical ship-management club. Sometimes she grew rare space pumpkins. She even learned how to grow space bread. One day she read in the newspaper that earthlings were coming to their planet next week. She was excited, because earthlings have always been very mysterious to the inhabitants of the planet k-pax. She decided that she must leave a message for the earthlings. The reception of the earthling ship was solemn, with the inhabitants of the planet k-pax crowding around. She waited a moment, and was able to walk through the crowd to the black exit to the ship, while everyone was looking at the earthlings, she made her way onto the ship. She wanted to leave her letter on the bed. As she approached the door she pulled the lever thinking it was a doorknob. But suddenly, all the doors closed and the ship began to take off. Meiko turned on flight mode back to earth.
