Fear of vegetables. From the ancient Greek “lákhanon”(greens, vegetables).
In 2009, the Telegraph reported the story of Vicki Larrieux, a 22-year-old student from Portsmouth, who claimed she could not eat a healthy diet because she was afraid of vegetables.
Vegetables are universally considered a healthy and nutritious food, we are moving towards eating more and more of them, but there are some cases where the mere thought of them can trigger terror. Sometimes it is the sight, others the taste, because of the particular textures. It’s a fear that has various sub-categories, but it can affect several foods at once, in which case it can be a problem in terms of physical health and nutrition, lacking some essential nutrients. I know several people who coexist with this phobia, in first place there is certainly salad, and I know how important it is to prevent this uncontrolled aversion that can lead to intense crises. All it takes is a few things, prevention, anticipation and where you can, avoidance. Arcimboldo approves it.
