I remember being in a closet in the SFV of a producer Nick Furlong’s house. He had all these plaques and cool shit on the walls and gothic interior wall paper. And we had made this song which had a really exciting beat and I had written all the verses, but it got time for the chorus and we were just stumped. Literally had no idea and in this closet there’s like one lightbulb just shining in front of you and I’m there sweating just like, damn man I am hungry and I have no idea what this hook should be. Should we try again tomorrow? He gave me a few more goes and sort of out of nowhere I just sang the whole hook. It was weird and interesting because at the time I’ve never taken my voice to those registers. I remember hopping out of the booth confused and not sure if that was it and we both played it back and were like…I think that’s for sure it. This record went on to be one of the singles and one of the most played off Mariposa
