The Clovis people, considered to be ancestors of most American Indigenous cultures, one lived, hunted and gathered here at Cedar Mesa.
This culture flourished until the late 1200's when the Pueblo people migrated out of the area. These people did not disappear. They live on as the Hopi, Zuni and Rio Grande Pueblo people of Arizona and New Mexico.
Many other tribes have ancestral affiliation to Cedar Mesa. Indigenous peoples consider the area sacred and implore us to use these lands with great care and respect.
Besides hundreds of ruins, mostly cliff dwellings, the Cedar Mesa region also has many petroglyphs and pictographs, dating from 3,000 B.C.
