We spent a whole cloudy afternoon with a cheetah mother and her three sub adult cubs. Half an hour before the sun set, the four cheetahs filled their bellies on a gazelle that the mother had previously hunted with great difficulty. So after the feast, the cheetahs became lazy and difficult to photograph with light that got darker every minute now - as the sun was setting behind the clouds. But slowly some clouds moved away and a gap opened up in the background. At the same time, a group of giraffes moved about 500 meters away from us. So we took the risk, left the cheetahs and drove to the group of giraffes. We tried to position ourselves so that the giraffes would be right between us and the sun as it shone through between the clouds. And we got very lucky. At the right time a giraffe walked perfectly timed in front of the big setting sun.
