"Deity of Sacrifice"
Theme song "Disturbed - The Sound of Silence"
Ben was a renowned warrior before he was ascended. He was courageous and smart, yet always remained humble. By his nature, he commanded the loyalty of his troops. Not because they feared him, but because he was one of them. He fought with them, protected them on the battlefield, and wept with them for the souls that were lost.
But Ben's sacrifice wasn't one tied to the battlefield, but to the life he left behind to protect his loved ones. He never had the chance to see his family grow and learn. It was his duty to protect them from the wars that surrounded them. To keep them safe at all cost. To never see their successes and joy. This was his true sacrifice. So when the day came that he finally fell on the battlefield, Quetzalcoatl ascended him to become the deity of sacrifice.
Those who pray to Ben know that life is full of hardships, and that to achieve your goals and enlightenment will require sacrifice. Many misunderstand and sacrifice their lives or loved ones in the hope to gain Ben's favor. But they don't understand the sacrifice that is represented.
To worship Ben B'alam Eloy is to sacrifice your own joy, your life to ensure the safety of others. To know that they will have joyous, healthy and fulfilling lives. But that you will not be a part of them.
The name comes from combining my son's name (Ben) with the Mayan words for jaguar (B'alam) and renowned warrior (Eloy).
