This image captures a huge region of emission nebula in the constellation of Cygnus. Aptly named for the shape of the continent. From our perspective the nebula spans a section of sky the size of 4 full moons, it can be seen from very dark skies as a dark patch adjacent to Deneb the bright star to the right of the frame. An area of dark dust obscures part of the nebulosity forming the Gulf of Mexico outline. The section forming what looks like Mexico is known as the Cygnus Wall and is the most vigorous star forming region of the nebula.
