The Card Game
A group of five friends (some of them couples) gather to play a game of Crazy 8s. Each of them is from a different part of the African continent (namely: Northern Africa, Morocco; East Africa, Kenya; West Africa, Nigeria and Southern Africa, Zimbabwe, and South Africa), which is shown through the clothing they are all wearing; the colours of which represent the flags of the respective countries they are from. As people with self-determined gender identities and sexual orientations, they are each other’s chosen family; folks they intend to build long-term community and familial intimacy with. This piece speaks to the existing occurrence and wider potential for intracontinental solidarity, camaraderie and familiality.
