The founder and partners of Ah Hua Kelong are commited to increasing consumption and access to locally farmed seafood. Singapore imports more than 90% of its food produce from countries like Malaysia, China and Australia. In recent years, the country is experiencing concerns over rising food prices and food security. To tackle these issues, the government drafted a blueprint to produce 30% of its food needs locally by the year 2030 by investing in high tech farms and utilising space creatively for farming. However, traditional farms are being left behind in the process.
