On October 1st 2011, I was commissioned by The New York Times to photograph a live music performance by then emerging talent Abel Tesfaye - better known as The Weeknd.
There was a great deal of mystery around the The Weeknd’s identity at the time, as he was declining media interviews and had recently cancelled a New York City appearance. To create these photographs I snuck a camera and long lens into a packed Guelph Concert Theatre in Canada.
At this point in my career I began exploring animated gifs - making photography move was an obsession. This NFT is presented in its original animated gif format, mastered at 2500 x 2500 pixels and seen for the first time in high resolution as a 1/1 digital original.
