In Neal Stephenson’s 1995 sci-fi novel “The Diamond Age”, Stephenson describes the futuristic concept of a blank piece of a paper generating animated colors, logos, and music as it is unfolds (7): “As Bud took it from the banker’s hand, the blank page generated a nice animated color logo and music. The logo developed into a peacock. Beneath it, a video presentation commenced… “.
The printed version (2018) attempted to create animated paper by using the phone, QR code & web as the link between the “real” and the “virtual”.
The NFT version is an experiment in minting across blockchains & platforms. When scanned, the QR code opens an IPFS link of the interactive NFT at https://hicetnunc.xyz/objkt/178319 (ed. of 5). The work would depend on the responsibility of various platforms & owners to pin the content in order to keep the work alive in its entirety, raising questions of long-term content persistence and collaborative ownership / responsibility of IPFS pinning. 4950 × 6150
