In this form Lord Shiva is venerated as the guardian of the disembodied beings. Ghosts are Tamas guna. Lord Shiva is called 'Bhutapala' because he is the Lord of the Tamas guna. By chanting Lord Shiva's name, you will not be able to get rid of the spirits, but you will be able to attract them. You'll also become more sensitive to the presence of the unseen, such as Ghosts & Kinnaras. The only difference is that their presence will not agitate you, & they will not seek to harm you. They'll be at ease with you, just as lions & tigers are around their own kind. This is due to the fact that when you chant Shiva's name, you are internalising Shiva's Tamas guna. When you chant a God's name, you are essentially internalising the God's characteristics & powers. The name of God is like a vessel. The more you chant a God's name, the more your Atma(soul) is poured into that vessel. When your soul has entirely filled the vessel, it has all of that God's powers exhibited. Art by @sandeepangrak10
