EARTH #3 - Breath of the Woods
Both comforting and unnerving, the dense groves of Earth have a beautifully eerie nature that ignite the imagination. The woods are a place I return often, breathing the perfumes of both life and death.
I captured this in 2019 in the lush Garibaldi Mountain Ranges near my home of Vancouver, BC. Fall is a special time here, where the winter rains slowly set in but still allow spurts of morning sun to pierce the tree-laden mountains. I envisioned this photo for a long time, but was never home at the right season, often abroad. When I finally got the chance, I began driving an hour to this grove every 4 days at the same time, periodically trying to catch the perfect lighting. After 5 visits, I finally caught the moment and frantically captured as many compositions as possible. This was my favourite, and it remains to be one of the best photos I’ve ever created.
