Inspired by the documentary called “Only Sometimes a God” by Prateek Prajosh where I have tried to highlight the truth that lies behind the foundation of Theyyam i.e. casteism. It is a performance art & only performed by the lower caste male of Kerala who wears larger-than-life costumes & is believed by the villagers that they are possessed by the god. It’s a festival of joy & togetherness of families but at the same time, there are real struggles the performers have to go through every time they perform without getting well paid & sometimes even burning themselves while performing with fire.
This piece shows an indirect portrayal of Theyyam with the same fiery eyes & powerful vibe. The story gradually flows from below red to above blue. Red shows, the brutal truth of casteism being one of the reasons for its existence & blue shows how in today’s world we can bring a change by choosing equality & freedom for every soul.
Love, peace, and equality are the only way ahead for humanity đź’›
