A late fall storm cools the grasslands of interior British Columbia, bringing a dramatic flare to the day with its stark contrast to the sun and rolling hills.
I had just completed the last leg of a 300km drive deep into the wilderness. Returning to the highway, the evening sun hung low and lazy in the sky. I sensed that the light was about to explode, but I found myself in a line of cars heading home from a weekend away.
Then it happened. The sun dipped low enough to catch the passing storm, and its light was diffused by the falling snow, casting a wide, faded rainbow β or in this case, a snowbow.
I pulled to the side of the road and grabbed the camera from the passenger seat (its usual spot). From out of the window, I watched this scene evolve, and as the prism of light glowed brightly from behind Battle Bluff, I captured it forever.
