Hidden within the constellation Carina, NGC 3576, also known as the Statue of Liberty nebula, is a deep space object reserved for observers in the Southern Hemisphere. This bright emission nebula is about 100 light years across and is located 9000 light years away from Earth.
Intense radiation and stellar winds blow the massive clouds of gas to give this nebula its bubble like appearance, and dense, dark clouds of interstellar dust block out its light to create the image of the statute and other dense formations.
Almost 30 hours of exposures shot throught four nights were combined for this image, shot with my rooftop telescope using narrowband filters which allow very specific wavelenghts of light emmited by the nebula to pass, blocking light pollution and enabling this kind of deep space photography from the highly polluted urban skies of Buenos Aires.
