This area of Shanghai really became more dense in the 80's and 90's and sits behind the Bund (which you can see at the bottom with the classical architecture) and across from Pudong. I've always loved taking photos of complicated cities, but I don't really like living in them. Visiting is great, but I'm more of a sit-in-my-cabin-in-the-mountains-Unabomber-manifesto-writing-kinda-guy.
Whenever I see these dense downtown areas, I often think they'll all be depopulated soon as humans have less need to physically show up in a location to do many kinds of work. Most work that requires more of your mind than your body can be done remotely, with a few exceptions. For example, if it's a "creative" type company, it's good to get a bunch of creatives in the same room on a regular basis. Maybe not 40-hours a week regular, but regular enough.
