We really had a great time for our one day, exploring St. Petersburg. At one point, we went to this really trendy and hipster coffee shop. It was so hipster, they almost didn't let hipsters inside. Anyway, I saw this girl sitting in the corner. I asked if I could take her photo, and, in broken English, she responded, "Oh no, please don't. I am too fat." This is the most active southernmost volcano in the world, Mt. Erebus. As I was leaving Antarctica on a LC-130 military plane, I talked my way back into the cockpit to ask if I could take photos. They were very accommodating as I had spent the week beforehand buttering up the flight chief. There is a sad thing about this volcano. A few decades ago, Air New Zealand used to run sightseeing flights down here from Christchurch and Auckland. Well, on one tragic day the plane lost its way and crashed into the volcano itself. Look, a wonder of the world! At least, it's a wonder in Civilization. There are many different lists for Wonders of the World, and I never know which one to believe. Oh well, no matter, because this is on My list. At first, when I went in here, I was a bit bummed out about the scaffolding. But then I decided to embrace it as a moment in time... and I think in embracing it and in the post-processing, it came out quite interesting. One of the bittersweet things about the art at Burning Man is that some of it burns down towards the end of the week. Not all of it. Maybe a third or so. The rest are taken back home or sold to a city or collector. So, one interesting thing about knowing everything will burn down is the ephemeral nature of it all, knowing it will only last a short time. I met Hans Zimmer about 10 years ago and we have been friends ever since. I was doing my photo tour across 10 cities in Europe by bus at the exact same time Hans was on his "Hans Zimmer Live" tour. In his concerts, he would have his crew play all the greats from Inception to Gladiator to Pirates of the Caribbean. Anyway, it just so happened our two crews converged in Budapest at the same time. How amazing! So he and his band came out to my photo walk and then he invited my crew out to his concert. Here's a photo I got there... and yes, it is inverted... I took it while he was playing "Time" from Inception so I found it fitting. Budapest, Hungary

When it comes to government housing, it's hard to get more interesting than this! We had a long day running all around Hong Kong and exploring with my new friend Simon. He was a local Chinese guy and a great local resource to show me some of his favorite spots. I think this was my final shot for the evening before we decided to go off bar-hopping together. Simon was a serious drinker. It was hard to keep up with him. He'd even slam some beers in the morning before heading out to take photos. He always seemed to be happy and full of energy, so I guess that formula worked pretty well for him. Hong Kong, China

It was quite rainy in Singapore while we were there, but it made for some great photos and reflections. This is the Esplanade Theater and a lot of the locals think it looks like a durian, possibly one of the worst fruits that ever evolved. This affronting fruit must have somehow stayed in the food chain thanks to monkeys or something. But, I actually know a few humans that like it. It smells so bad to most people that it is banned in hotels and airplanes. My Singaporean and Malaysian friends are constantly trying to force me to enjoy durian. They give me deep-fried durian, durian ice cream, durian yogurt, and durian candy. It's all horrible and I can barely keep myself from vomiting and it just makes them laugh. At some point, I'll figure out their tricks. Singapore

I thought this seemed like an ideal time to try out some black & white photography! This dazzle of zebras (that is the group name, right? How cool!) was running around trying to find some of the pools of water that are now starting to dry up all over the Okavango Delta. It makes these places hotly contested! They were very nervous, always looking around for lions or other Big Dangerous Cats. At one point, I made a little cough, and they all scattered to the four winds before re-assembling into this amazing formation. Okavango Delta, Botswana, Africa
