A monster lurks within my soul
A part of me I used to cower and control

On which to place our shadows and our fears

DreamScape Series: Sigmund Freud emphasized the importance of dream analysis as a means of unlocking the unconscious. He believed that dreams were fundamentally composed of repressed psychological material and considered dreaming an expression of repressed conflicts or desires. Modern theories suggest that dreaming can help us process emotions by encoding and constructing memories of them. The experiences and events depicted in dreams may not be real, but the emotions attached to these experiences are genuine. The narrative of our dreams attempts to extract the emotion from a particular experience by creating a memory of it, rendering the emotion itself inactive. The DreamScape series captures the psychotherapeutic aspect of dream investigation through the lens of Surrealism, deconstructing experiences, emotions, and memories. The creation process for this series includes dream analysis, psychoanalysis, research, journaling, meditation, and lucid dreaming practices, all of which are translated into digital artworks created using a combination of AI (Midjourney and DALL路E 2) as well as matte painting and compositing with Adobe Photoshop. This series aims to revisit the historical core intention of psychoanalysis in the Surrealist art movement through a modern lens and to open the viewer's mind not only to the world of tapping into the unconscious through dream exploration, but also to the therapeutic aspect of this type of practice in mental healing.
