Own this snapshot of pre-pandemic life in London, England on the morning of July 31st, 2016 at the famous Columbia Road Flower Market where flower sellers set up their stalls and call to shoppers attempting to offload their goods.
Wear your headphones and close your eyes to immerse yourself into this historical experience in real time.
I really enjoy recording in 3D Audio (sound recorded the same way we hear) and I feel that it's the best way to record a moment in history in order to re-live it later on. When listening back you're listening to a place as if you were really there.
Decades ago most of the street markets in London had "callers" who would yell, haggle, and compete with each other to sell their wares to street shoppers. This past time is all but gone, except here at the Columbia Road Flower Market (pre-covid anyway). I knew when I was visiting London I wanted to record something that I thought would disappear with time. I thought if I recorded it now that I could preserve it, and years later we could listen back and experience what once was. The Flower Market is pretty famous in London so it may come back but this pandemic has changed a lot of things, so if it doesn't at least it will always be here.
With the link below you can see a video of me walking around holding the microphone in front of my face while holding my breath and wearing the recording unit backpack.
