Photography by Renato Soares
Renato Soares is a photographer and documentary filmmaker specialized in photographing in-depth records of Brazilian natives and the indigenous population, as well as the country's art, culture and biodiversity aspects.
Since 1986 Renato Soares has been making systematic trips across the national territory to portray different forms of cultural expression within several different Brazilian ethnic groups.
The identification with the indigenous universe has led him to long periods of immersion in villages and native reserves, and it has also stimulated him to develop the project Ameríndios do Brasil - an ambitious photographic documentation of about 300 indigenous nations within the country itself.
It is about rescuing, through images, these ancestral characters that are deeply rooted in our soul. Ameríndios do Brasil aims at creating and building a large ethnographic collection, which had never before been photographed in full in the country.
A precious document of inclusion of the land’s native peoples of Brazil. The collection has proven to have several uses and is also directed and instituted to educational purposes in several different ways: didactic material, recreational books, art books, editorials, lectures, interactive conferences, institutional actions, photographic exhibitions, audiovisual productions, remote and virtual technologies and through an different array of medias.
* Renato Soares is a collaborator to major editorial magazines, such as National Geographic and Scientific American.
