Gangkhar Puensum is the highest unclimbed mountain in the world. Standing at 2,995 meters tall, it was last attempted in 1999. The local Bhutanese believe that a mountain god lives on the top and is angered when a summit is attempted, so they have banned the climbing of any mountain above 6,000 meters. The only only way to attempt this climb is to start in Tibet. Having to trek through this highly remote portion of the Himalayan mountain range some believe this climb may never happen, I beg to differ.
