Artist Biography:
Born in Alice Springs April 22nd 1985, second child of Karen Dey and Malcolm Jagamarra. Nicholas (whoโs called Jupurula as his traditional name back home in Wallara) started art at a young age inspired by his father Malcom Jagamarra and pop culture of his youth. His father Malcolm Jagamarra has had worldwide success in selling traditional Aboriginal art around the world where his work has been displayed in many galleries across the world, had his work sold to professional companies like TELECOM and his work was displayed in Hollywood film Mission Impossible 2. While growing up not only did Nicholas learn from his fatherโs traditional stories that his paintings were based on and techniques of traditional painting but he also took in influence from other art forms such while growing up. Including film, animation and gaming of all different cultures. Which inspired him to enroll to learn more about his interests to earn an Advanced Diploma in New Media where he was taught by his teacher, an industry veteran and stop motion animator, Craig Ross (Mary and Maxโs lead key-frame animator). After graduating Nicholas has started his own business, worked on film, animation, website design and concept work for games. He hopes to blend his fatherโs traditional teachings with modern technology to make traditional aboriginal art for the modern era.
