Xilo has been a member of the Darkblades since he was a child. His innate sense of cruelty has made him an outcast in his family, a lineage of Stalwart Researchers. Perhaps his exposure to the crystals drove this cruelty.
He has long found a way to use the Artificer Crystals to power strange traps and dark machines to entrap his enemies.
