Penance was a young bard who couldn't help but be drawn to the magic that flowed through his veins as he played his lute and sang his songs.
One day, Penance's luck ran out. He was caught by the authorities and accused of being a witch. Desperate to prove his innocence, he begged for a chance to prove his magic was pure and used for good.
The authorities, however, were not swayed. Penance was sentenced to death, and he was burned at the stake as a warning to others who might dare to practice magic.
But death was not the end for Penance. As the flames consumed his body, a surge of magic flowed through him, bringing him back to life as an undead being.
Embracing his new form, Penance journeyed from town to town, weaving a forlorn song of sadness across the lands.
