This artwork is very special.
It was one of fist paintings I've made after we left home in 2022 cos of war. We didn't even take any clothes with us, let alone art supplies. And we lived in an icy abandoned house where we could warm up one room only, and all the others were freezing cold.
In those days, a gallery in San Diego, California, offered me cooperation. They said: if your old art is not available now - paint something new and send it to us.
I went, bought few paints and started painting in one of the cold rooms so that the child would not be bothered by the smell of oil. My fingers did not obey me cos of cold, but the very thought that I was creating something again was healing.
Now my relationship with the gallery is ending - I do not have the opportunity to paint in oil, and they are not interested in digital paintings, but it’s ok, it’s life. And I remembered this painting today, which for me symbolizes the victory of art over despair and destruction, it symbolizes a new beginning.
I want to give it to you as a talisman.
If you are interested in looking at other artworks from that period just to understand my mood better, you can see them here before they are removed from the site. This is a reflection of my state at the beginning of the war. There is a lot of pain here, but also a lot of hope.
