Bomb Story: For every design and collaboration successfully executed by The Hundreds, there are a handful of alternatives and pitches that fell through. Some Adam Bombs go all the way to the final stages of the filtration process but are ultimately cut. The reasoning is all over the place: we believed in it, but not enough of our stockists bought into it. Sometimes, it's just that timing is off and the design fails to meet the climate criteria. Regardless, some bombs eventually make their way through but many are often trapped in purgatory. This is one of the lucky few drafts to finally see the light of day.| Background Story: Originating in Scotland as ""tartan,"" we now call this pattern of crisscrossed lines ""Plaid."" Growing up in Southern California during the '80s and '90s, plaid beach volleyball shorts were always in our purview, thanks to labels like Mossimo and Stüssy. When we elevated to making cut-n-sew apparel like button-ups in the early 2000s, plaids made their way into our language as a nod to both the surf culture of the West Coast and Polo's influence on the East. In fact, every plaid speaks to a different subculture. Buffalo plaids were woven into the early New York hip-hop lumberjacks. Shadow plaids on swap meet Pendletons. And The Hundreds plaids, for all.

Bomb Story: Bugged Out Adam is one of a series of Adam Bombs in various emotive states. Mental health awareness and discussion are important to The Hundreds so we use the emotional Adams to help our community identify different feelings. Also, MOOD.| Background Story: The foundation of The Hundreds is streetwear, and at the foundation of streetwear is the graphic T-shirt. From our beginnings in the Fall of 2003, The Hundreds has relied on the tubular, open-ended cotton of a boxy, blank as our canvas. This is the same T-shirt that Bobby and Ben wore growing up, mixing and matching them 3 for $10 at the local swap meets. The independent skate brands of the 1990s, the streetwear brands of the early 2000s, all co-signed the same cut. Even when the clothing industry chased ringspun apparel or fashion silhouettes, The Hundreds held to the inspirational baseline. Our solid backgrounds are hues from the original swatch card that we built the brand off of.

Bomb Story: When dressed up in pop and contrasting colors, Adam Bomb is usually considered bold and vibrant. We wanted to see what a subdued Adam would look like on colors you wouldn't typically catch him in. In a way, this makes the Muted Adam one of the more special renditions.| Background Story: Horizontal stripes, especially of the yarn-dyed variety, are a staple of The Hundreds' collection. Earlier on, they were derived from the surf knits and beachgoer patterns that graced the backs of Californians in the 1980s. Examples include Hang Ten, OP, Quiksilver, and Gotcha. In the following decade, independent skate brands and rave companies capitalized on stripes across boxy, baggy tops. Whether they're fatter stripes across neighborhood-sanctioned Charlie Browns or pinstripes across suiting or a baseball jersey, The Hundreds' stripes speak to a spectrum of subcultures.

Bomb Story: There are a few half-toned Adam Bombs in the Squad, but this was one of the first. The reprographic technique of half-toning has been popular throughout various generations of art, from the early screen-printing and lithographs of Warhol to the Photoshop edits of early-2000s streetwear. Half-toning was a convenient solution for many designers who were utilizing low-resolution online photographs to stretch across T-shirts. Instead of getting a pixelated result, a halftone filter broke a blurry photo into thousands of sharp, focused dots.| Background Story: The foundation of The Hundreds is streetwear, and at the foundation of streetwear is the graphic T-shirt. Bomb Story: Seal Adam is part of the larger Seal T-shirt graphic from Winter 2018 and is one of the rare times that you will catch a 2-color Adam Bomb in which the spark and body are filled with the same color. | Background Story: In the mid-2010s, there was a wildly popular trend with roses across street fashion. We're not saying we were responsible for that surge, but we were the ones to originate the rose-embroidered dad-cap that was broadly imitated in the market. We've incorporated the rose into The Hundreds' branding across generations, primarily as an homage to Angeleno history from the Rose parade to tattoos and lowrider art. Can you find the black rose?

Bomb Story: Kenny Scharf is living history. In the '80s downtown New York scene, Kenny's artistic rise ran alongside his friends Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Today, he stands on a body of iconic work that spans the globe. Our favorite thing about Kenny Scharf is that his graffiti still rules the streets, yet he can also hold down solo exhibitions at the finest galleries in the world. Kenny's characters are hard to miss as they're often painted on people's cars under his Karbombz program. Bomb Story: Sometimes, our stockists request exclusive The Hundreds product that a nearby competitor doesn't have access to. Once in a blue moon, we will offer Special Make-Ups (SMUs) for friends of ours or accounts who have gone above and beyond for us. Triple Scribble Adam is a concept that was pitched to one of our accounts as an SMU, but never ended up going to production.| Background Story: If there was ever a pattern that encapsulated The Hundreds, it would be Paisley. Our first big hit, the one that put us on the map, was the all-over-print Paisley hoodie from 2005. There's an unabridged version of this story in Bobby's book, but that sweatshirt sold so much, and sold out so quickly overnight, that we allocated all of those funds to building our first flagship retail store on the corner of Fairfax and Rosewood. The pattern was designed in 2004, on a lesser-remembered piece called the ""Bandana"" zip-up. Over the years, those clusters of buta droplets continued onto The Hundreds T-shirts, across cut-n-sew collections, New Era fitteds, and collaborations with artists. The Paisley print not only defined us, but greater streetwear, as it trickled down into the work of later brands and designers.
