Eyes rapidly blinking through a mix of tears and rain, Elle's sight started to come back to her. Silver rimmed glasses glinting in the moonlight and an outstretched hand coming into focus, this was how she met David Fudderton. Confused and disoriented David was the person Elle didn’t know she needed, a mentor arriving in her darkest hour. Eyes fading from deep black and back to brown, Elle began to make out the new stranger in detail, the name tag, striped tie, and a general sense of calm worn across their face. As their hands touched for the first time Elle winced, a flash of the first vision crashing over her once again.
Seeing Elle’s discomfort, David took his hand from hers and instead opened an umbrella to shield her from the rain. A silence washed over Elle, allowing her to focus and regain her composure. Reading her hesitation, David began to speak first. He shared that when he discovered he could manipulate nature he was all on his own. He longed to have someone to share the extraordinary moments within his days wtih, but he had no one. He vowed that should his own visions return and bring another with powers, he would work to mentor and protect them. Elle’s face softened hearing familiar stories and struggles, and felt empowered by a view of the future where she embraced the power coursing through her.
Beginning their walk back from the forest David closed the umbrella and waved his hand. Elle had a moment of awe as the rain now cascaded around them as they walked. An invisible umbrella shielding them as he shared that her powers were no accident, and that their reveal only meant one thing. A natural force of opposition was coming, a being of power that would threaten her own existence, and that of the world she has grown to love. Her very connection to nature was coming under attack, and only she was able to defend it. In this moment Elle knew she must practice, perfect, and embrace her power, only then could her world be safe once more.
