On January 1, 1936, the Delancey Street subway station on the IND Sixth Avenue Line opened to the public. For many years, it was my go-to ride for getting around the city. When I was younger, my friends and I would ride the F train to Coney Island and Brighton Beach during the summer. Throughout my college years, I rode the F to the School of Visual Arts near 23rd St and after graduating, my daily commute on the F took me to my former job in Times Square at the 42nd St stop. Of course, I can’t forget to mention the countless train rides (7 to the F) back home after catching the Mets games at Shea & Citi Field. In 2004, the station was renovated and the walls were retiled but the original “DELANCEY ST.” mosaic name tablets remain. This piece marks the first pixel art creation of the LESNYC Collection.
