Actress Ariana DeBose made history Sunday night becoming the first openly queer woman of colour to win an Academy Award. Ariana, who wowed audiences in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation as Anita, picked up the Best Supporting Actress Award.
Closing out her speech, DeBose said: “So to anybody who’s ever questioned your identity, ever, ever, ever, or you find yourself living in the grey spaces, I promise you this, there is indeed a place for us.”
To celebrate this historical milestone, we dedicate Homie 17 to Ariana. The NFT design paid homage to her role as Anita in the West Side Story.
