A White Elephant Gift for Scott Strazzante, Pulitzer Prize winning San Francisco Chronicle photojournalist.
"I moved to North Beach San Francisco in 2014 and lived there for 5 years. First on Bannam Place alley, above Sodini's, an 100 year old Italian join that served up some mean pasta. I frequented the pool bars daily. Grant and Green, Columbus Cafe, Gino and Carlos. Most nights you could catch me in line for a slice of Golden Boy Pizza, garlic clam or an everything. I never paid cover charges for the Condor. And I'd been 86'd from Grant and Green more times than I could count.
I walked over the hill, past Coit Tower and down to the Levi's business center for work daily. It was surreal. I paid $700 in parking tickets 1 year. Then I moved to Jasper St. My roof overlooked Washington Square. People shit in our alley, smoked crystal on our doorstep. It was a debaucherous state of affairs. I'll never forget my time in Little Italy. Sometimes I feel like I left my heart in San Francisco".
