Sometimes, as individuals, we can find it hard to love ourselves. There is a preconceived notion that happiness and contentment can be purchased or sold because we are fed this narrative from a young age. Society best functions when we have connections to objects and material goods as our nations are built on the idea that these material goods bring some kind of freedom through trade.
While functional systemically, these attachments never seem to fill our deeper emotional cups. We create goals around what we feel success is and should be, but as we near each goal, we never feel full or content. Even the wealthiest can struggle with depression or feelings of isolation and longing.
While we are living in this material environment, striving for success, we find ourselves modifying each goal further and further ahead. While this serves as a form of motivation, it means we also don't take the time to appreciate where we started and how far we have come, or to appreciate the small accomplishments or human connections we made along the way. Finding our value means learning to value ourselves and finding our own self-worth. It means leaning on those who support you and deepening those friendships. Without a sense of self or a sense of where we fit in the world, we will never feel contentment or true happiness, and we won't be able to truly value ourselves.
Value starts from within.
What does "value" look like for you?
