My Guardian piece is called Oyxabaten y o grito da Natureza. I am so happy to be part of this amazing project and I have been working with Oyxabaten since I started my journey in NFTs.
The inspiration behind this artwork is the rich nature of Brazil and of our people. This drawing is a celebration of the vast and complex indigenous culture across the Americas and their influence in the formation of ourselves.
In this piece we see the traditional pattern used in body paintings by the Oyxabaten people in the skyline. This is an intricate artwork and like our culture that is formed by many others, making Brazil a rich and varied land. The red, an important colour in the indigenous culture and is also relevant in Brazil. Urucum (Achiote) is a shrub native to Central America and its red extract is commonly used for body painting in Indigenous traditions.
The frame of this piece is another very important feature in this work. It is also inspired by the Pau-Brasil and again the reddish wood is present to celebrate our natural resources and richness’s. Inspired in the sculpture Roots of Brazil, created in 2018 for my End of the Year Show at university. I am so proud of this stunning artwork, and this took me over a year to be completed.
The main figure in the drawing appears rooted to the floor, and the roots speak about heritage and ancestrality. The figure is watching over the present and the future of mother nature, a home that is borderless and that we all share.
This fantastic creature stands in nature, as nature and represents here the indigenous efforts to keep flora, fauna & human life protected, especially in difficult times like we face in Brazil. Finally, this piece is a celebration of life and I stand in support with the originary people of the Americas.
We are here for you, and with you.
