Artist: Carl Ansloos – Mr Painter
Title:
'So. What is Art?'
Description:
This painting is inspired by the great debate, ‘What is Art?’
This is a question which causes much discussion and polarisation. The development of Web3 and recent technology raises new arguments.
It is not for me to answer this question, but to quote Oscar Wilde from his novel ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’
‘Diversity of opinion about a work of art shows that the work is new, complex, and vital. When critics disagree, the artist is in accord with himself.’ (Wilde, 1891, p6).
This is the third painting in the Masquerade Collection. A body of work that celebrates self-expression and individuality. This hand-painted series aims to explore the themes of anonymity and identity. The artist uses hyperbolic characterization to illustrate the adoption of the ‘alter ego’ or avatar. Furthermore, the narrative investigates the connection between anonymity and personal empowerment within the community. Whilst exploring these themes, the artist seeks to promote innovation, diversity, and creativity within this space.
