Part 002:
I awoke from a deep sleep, disoriented and disheveled. It took me a moment to remember where I was- on board the space vessel Voyager, en route to the Beta Hydri space station. I shook my head to clear the cobwebs and checked the time. I had been asleep for hours, it seemed. I got up from my bunk and made my way to the ship's mess hall, where I found my fellow crewmates already up and about, enjoying their morning meal.
"Good morning, sleepyhead," one of them called out to me.
I mumbled a response and grabbed a tray of food. I wasn't really hungry, but I knew I needed to eat something to keep up my strength. We had been on this voyage for weeks now, and it was taking its toll on all of us.
I forced myself to eat a few bites, then dumped the rest of my food in the disposal. I couldn't stomach any more. I left the mess hall and made my way to the ship's observation deck. I needed some time to think, to try and make sense of what was happening.
We were on a mission to explore a new star system, and so far, it had been a disaster. Our ship had been damaged in an accident, and we were now stranded, light years from home. We were running low on supplies, and morale was at an all-time low.
I stared out at the stars, trying to find some solace in their beauty. But even they seemed cold and distant now. I felt like I was losing my mind, like I was slowly going mad.
I didn't know how much longer we could keep going. I didn't know if we would ever make it back home.
