I used to play with lizards as a child. I remember holding them by the tails and seeing them escape. Some lizard species sacrifice their tails. When the lizard is trapped or threatened, its tail falls off allowing the lizard to escape the threat. This ties the lizard symbolically to the idea of sacrificing one part for the sake of the whole. I can relate symbolically because I, too, have sacrificed a part of me to be whole again.
