This piece portrays children in their imaginary play world. When a child plays make believe they become fully immersed in their story, their world around them becomes the place they are imagining. Whenever I play “Make Believe” with my children I’m always amazed at how committed they are to their role play, almost as if they are great little actors, but it’s not because they’re acting, it’s because they are fully believing what they are playing. Watching my children grow I have been taken back to my own childhood and have remembered how immersed in my own fantasies I would become, so with this collection I wanted to paint my children in a real version of the world they’re imagining, so that we can step into their imagination with them. I created this piece using watercolour and procreate. The reference photograph is my own photography (of my own children). I then hand painted all the individual elements; the children, the planets, the galaxy are all hand painted in watercolour, I then digitally collaged these to create the final artwork, with a few tweaks and additions in Procreate.
