Was their arrival our departure? Or was a new beginning for Them destined to be their end?
‘The Arrival’ is a reflection on differing perspectives regarding colonization, invasion, and exploration; and the human penchant for justifying aggression whether it be on our own planet against our own kind, or among the stars where we are recklessly heading. History is written by the victor.
About the soundtrack:
The widely beloved music by Franz Shubert, Op 52 (1826), commonly referred to as "Ave Maria," was actually composed in reference to a poem by Sir Walter Scott (Ellens dritter Gesang III). I selected it for its elegiac beauty, and because it, too, symbolizes both beginnings and ends as the most popular music played at both weddings and funerals, and touches body, mind, and soul.
