This piece was inspired by my son’s cuddly toy named Scruffy Bunny. To my son, "Scruffy Bunny" was a friend who enjoyed every trip, every holiday, every walk in the forest, picnic or day at the beach along with us. The bunny didn’t leave my son’s side for almost 6 years, everything that my son saw, scruffy bunny saw too.
This piece takes us into a child's imagination where the cuddle toy is enjoying the children’s make believe world along with them. My son isn’t shown in this particular painting although he features in my other work, these two girls (who are daughters of my friend) just created the perfect moment for the piece I wanted to create when they stood together nostalgically like this.
This collection explores children imaginations, watching my children grow I have been taken back to my own childhood and have remembered how immersed in my own fantasies I could become. When playing "Make Believe", children aren't just pretending, for that moment they are fully immersed in their own make believe idea, their surroundings change and the toys they are with become real. This piece allows us to step into their world with them.
I created this piece using watercolour and procreate. I hand painted all the individual elements in watercolour; the children, the bunny and the mountains, I then digitally collaged these to create the final artwork, with a few tweaks and additions in Procreate.
