The background image for this artwork was photographed in old town Hanoi at a tiny building supply shop. It’s an end view of extruded metal pipes. While not recognizable in this animated rendition, I crafted the original artwork titled, “Pipe Dream,” by applying colorful digital design elements in post-production. Generated from shapes in this artwork, my animated version dramatizes the use of explosive pixelated, three-dimensional spiked rays receding toward the center of a pulsating canvas.
My kinetic animated creations explore motion, vibration, energy, gesture, and juxtaposition while incorporating geometric or architectonic background images captured during my travels to more than one hundred countries. Typically I employ a modular matrix grid arrangement adding occasional hand-drawn brush strokes to create designs controlled by honed visual perspectives that integrate balance and proportion with buoyancy and often a bit of humor.
