The background image for this artwork is an end-view of stacked, steel reinforcing bars I found at a building supply shop in Bangkok. Graphic patterns in the environment always delight my psychic energy. The workers there were intrigued that I would shoot such a photo. But they didn’t know my final creation. I later added digital colors positioned with a honed eye to establish balance, hierarchy, and whimsy. Then I animated a pulsing canvas that shifts exposure toward the black spectrum while subtly distorting the shapes to add an element of mysterious intrigue.
My kinetic animated creations explore motion, vibration, energy, gesture, and juxtaposition while frequently incorporating geometric or architectonic background images captured during my travels to more than one hundred countries. Typically, I employ a modular matrix grid arrangement adding occasional hand-drawn brush strokes to create designs controlled by honed visual perspectives that integrate balance and proportion with buoyancy and often a bit of humor.
