The name Umi itself means "energy" and the number seven (which is the number of braids she wears) and is also traditionally linked to energy, perfection and protection among the Bantu peoples. I wanted to represent here the mystical energy of the number seven, praised and sacred by several cultures since the beginning of time.
For the Dogon, seven being the sum of 4, symbol of femininity, and 3, symbol of masculinity, it represents human perfection. The number seven was a symbol of eternal life for the Egyptians. When we say "seven", we immediately think of the 7 days of the week, the 7 notes of the diatonic scale, the 7 wonders of the world, the 7 colours of the rainbow... It is an omnipresent number in everyday life, but also a number that comes back almost obsessively, in all spiritual traditions...
The number 7 is therefore a universal symbol of totality, a complete cycle, a dynamic perfection.
