There are always two sides to a coin.
Everything is dual.
Man and Woman.
Love and forgiveness
Ugly and beautiful.
Hero and Villain.
Lightness and Darkness.
Good and Evil.
Black and White.
Yes, the two sides of a coin. The Yin and Yang.
The sunny and shady side of a stream; the yang is the sunny side, and the yin is the shady side.
We typically live in a world of duality: good and evil, true and untrue, but mythology shows us that there’s an underlying union between the polarities, a Yin and Yang where there is always some good in bad and vice versa. There is no black and white.
This is what I love about myths—they show us how things really are. The mythological stories don't paint a perfect picture; they show us the grey areas of life and those areas which have two different aspects to them. They show us the true nature of the universe.
I like this concept because it gives me hope for humanity's future. It tells me that we, as people, can change; we can transcend our limitations and evolve into better beings if we just stay open-minded enough.
