I studied architecture for the guts of 7 years... working in practice in London for 3 years.
It was a grind. In 2019, I went solo and took a leap of faith... to start up Concrete Clouds and work for myself, as an architectural illustrator and artist.
Within my first 6 months of freelance life... BOOM!
LOCKDOWN.
All of a sudden... work dried up... uncertainty became the new daily GRIND.
As the months went on... bits and pieces of work dripped in... but lockdown and its impact, began to feel never ending. Life had entered a reset...
So I drew for me... imagining myself visiting somewhere far away...
Like a dream... my drawings helped me to travel.
I designed and created a fictional Carribean resort... the complete opposite of rainy Ireland.
The drawings I made... are just like the sort I do for a living... for my day job; working with architects on projects across the globe.
Only this time... the place did not EXIST. It was entirely fictional. For a client that was not there.
Only for myself... to escape.
To dream.
And like a DREAM... I left the drawings as black and white... devoid of colour.
The concept of time during that period... made the idea of a vacation or holiday... FUZZY. Like a distant memory... slowly fading into a new reality of boredom... as the days rolled on like a monotonous droll.
It was fun to make these drawings... they kept me going... as an artist working in architecture... They kept me in practice... and allowed my mind to go on an adventure when the whole world came to a HALT.
This is the third drawing that I would like to share from... THE PLACE THAT DOES NOT EXIST.
This is THE WAVES.
