Expressions of mental health struggles, as felt by those in crisis.
This series features projections of what people would see, if they could only see the way the person with issues sees themselves.
It's difficult for those in crisis to express their perspective of internal struggle to those without issue. This collection is based on my own experiences, and those of people I've known in life. It is intended to give perspective of people struggling with issues to those who are not.
As a teenager, I was driven to suicide by my toxic family. My failed attempt landed me in a mental health facility for several months, where I met some fine people with a variety of struggles. Through the years, I found this experience situated me in a position to be able to identify struggles in others, and understand them from the perspective of an insider who's been there.
I advocate for therapy and reaching out to friends who've "lived it". I help where I can. Sadly, sometimes I cannot. I've lost too many people over the years to suicide and other tragic ends related to their issues.
We need to destigmatize mental health struggles in this world, and do more and do better to help our fellow citizens. There is a lot of damage out there, and to those affected it feels like few care much about it.
