Haydarpaşa Silos, known as the TMO Building, located next to Haydarpaşa Train Station in Kadıköy, were built together with the port in the early 1900s.
The first silo was built in 1903 and is the smallest of the 4 silos in the port. In 1905, a silo similar to the first one was built right next to the power station. In 1907, a new type of silo with cylindrical warehouses was built in the middle of the two silos. In 1958, the last and the largest silo with cylindrical shaped warehouses was built. “T.M.O. The Office is the Farmer's Black Day Friend” and summarizes its aims. These articles were written by the painter-signboard maker Ergün Kesen from Yeldeğirmen.
The buildings, which continued to function until 2005, were closed for use in 2005 within the scope of the Haydarpaşa Port project.
I have seen inside the building with a special permission while we were shooting an episode of a photography documentary for a mainstream media channel in Turkey. There has been a law case going on about the custody of this building and no preservation has been provided for almost 17 years.
