This series was inspired by Puccini's Opera, Madama Butterfly, in which western and eastern cultures are at odds. Cio Cio San, a Japanese girl falls in love with an American naval officer, Pinkerton, leading to devastating consequences.
I tried to represent her feelings in my artwork through the uncompromised coexistence between natural organic forms and angular edgy shapes. Two formal lexicons exist in tension, representing the interplay of two cultures.
