There are many prophecies or visions that have been passed down through the generations .... one of them is of the birth of a white buffalo which is the sign of changes coming.
This piece depicts a man and woman being carried into the future by a giant white buffalo. The sun and color yellow symbolizing a newness. The red outline telling of the sacred red road of the Lakota and how everything is connected.
The medicine wheel bringing all races together as one and also showing a crossroads, a point of choice. The vertical one has 14 eagle feathers tied to it as if a staff. The traditional (lower ones) symbolizing 7 generations of ancestors and the 7 above in a more modern style which speaks to the evolving 7 generations ahead.
I've used an original oil painting, original ledger paper (1913/14) and some hand drawn digital art and combined them to create my version of the next evolution of ledger art. Ledger art being the only means available after the people were forced onto reservations, no longer able to hunt and use the animal hides as was the way with traditional winter counts (record keeping of a year's cycle).
So, from buffalo hide winter counts to ledger paper recording and now the blockchain... all the while holding respectfully to the purpose.
