Ann Margret (1941- ) is a singer and dancer primarily known for live stage musical performance. She became a popular and successful actor in Hollywood movies from the early 1960s.
She is probably best recalled for her roles in ‘Viva Las Vegas’ (1964) playing opposite Elvis Presley, and her iconic role as Kim in ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ (1963).
She’s remembered her tousled red hair, wholesome but sexy look, and a modern, youthful and carefree demeanor coupled with her signature frenetic dancing style. Overall her image embraced the more wholesome aspects of ‘Beatnik’ and ‘Youthquake’-type teen culture.
Here I’ve driven her even further into the 1960s genre by accentuating her sex kitten image with the ideals of erotic and/or spiritual exploration and freedom, which was so popular in the late 1960s post the ‘Summer of Love.’ My title comes from the starring role she took in the racy comedy ‘The Swinger’ in 1966.
I seem to be fascinated with the great western revolution of sixties culture lately, finding its imagery rich with opportunities for reinterpretation.
