We stand at the edge of the water,
flames high in the valley,
helicopters whir above,
apocalyptic.
Cool water spray mixes with white ash,
as blackened gum leaves float from the heavens.
This artwork is the first in a series, sharing my experience and feelings during and since the Black Summer of 2019-20, an intense bushfire season we experienced in Australia. It is a GAN animation, created from photographs I took during that time and my textile artworks.
